2008 Queer Borderlands Tour Announced
Mangos with Chili, the floating cabaret of queer and trans people of color
bliss, dreams, sweat, sweets & nightmares, is pleased to announce the Bay
Area kick off of our 2008 Queer Borderlands Tour.
Launching on Columbus Day weekend in resistance to the legacy of
imperialism and colonization reflected by the commemoration of the
holiday, Mangos with Chili will present two evenings of unforgettable and
history-making performance in both San Francisco and Oakland. The show
will feature new work in the genres of dance, vaudeville, poetry, spoken
word, theater, burlesque, performance memoir, and hip hop addressing the
themes of border transgressions, migrations, deportations, relocation,
displacement, legacy and the struggle to create new worlds, and in
celebration of queer lives, stories, and the legacies we are creating for
future generations of queer and trans people of color.

Who we are:
Mangos with Chili is a Bay-Area based arts organization committed to
showcasing high quality work of life-saving importance by queer and trans
artists of color to audiences in the Bay Area and beyond. Founded in 2006
by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha and Ms. Cherry Gallete, Mangos With
Chili began as an annual touring cabaret of queer and trans people of
color performance artists.
With no core funding and mostly grassroots publicity, Mangos With Chili
was a phenomenally successful tour. The show packed world class theaters,
underground performance spaces, and campus halls, including Buddies in Bad
Times Theatre in Toronto, C-Space in Cleveland, Swarthmore College,
Cattyshack in New York, The Black Repertory Theater of Providence, Theatre
Juste por Rire in Quebec, and more. Audiences everywhere thanked us for
both the high caliber of work and the life-saving importance of the
testimonies we shared through our art.
The 2008 Queer Borderlands Tour will visit 13 cities down the California
coast and across the Southwest from October 10-26. For complete listings,
