Earlier this week, Manhunt co-founder Jonathan Crutchley was revealed to have contributed to presumptive Republican candidate John McCain's presidential campaign to the tune of $2,300. Now, Crutchley has left his post as the Chairman of the gay socializing site.
Online, Crutchley responded to criticism for donating the maximum amount allowed for an individual to the Republican candidate, who has spoken out against GLBT equality measures, saying, "I believe McCain will be a better commander-in-chief than Obama, who also opposes gay marriage."
A person can support who ever they choose, but it is news worthy that an individual who makes his living off of gay men, chooses to contribute to candidate who seeks to discriminate against his client base.
I think it is important to support companies that support our community, and to take our considerable buying power elsewhere when companies support candidates and policies harmful to our community.
This is no unlike the Christian right boycotting McDonalds because they allowed an employee to sit on the Board of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
You spending dollars wield considerable political clout, never forget that.
