Leading Companies in Bay Area to Discuss the Impact of Same-Sex Marriage on the Workplace
The panel, which includes executives from Intuit, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), Trucker Huss, and more, will speak to how organizations are adapting to changes in benefits, policies, and other areas based on the California Supreme Court ruling giving all Californians, including same-gender couples, the freedom to marry. In addition to updating company policies, many organizations have been proactive in taking a stance against Proposition 8. PG&E was the first California corporation to donate funds to fight Proposition 8, recently contributing $250,000 to the NO on 8-Equality for All campaign.
"It's an honor to facilitate this event with corporate leaders who are leading the charge during this historic time in California," said Tom Floyd, CEO of IEC. "In this ever-changing business environment, we are proud to put together a timely panel to help companies and professionals in the Bay Area learn and ask questions on how the recent May 15th ruling has impacted benefits, retirement plans, and other policies within their organizations."
Tom Floyd created the "Workplace Panel" series which brings together senior executives from Fortune 500 companies to address how organizations are successfully advancing the rights of GLBT employees and how organizations are designing inclusive strategies, programs and career development plans to grow these individuals.
Floyd brings both his professional expertise as a business leader and management consultant as well as his experience hosting a weekly business radio show, "Insight on Coaching," to the topic. "Insight on Coaching" routinely airs shows on diversity and inclusion, as well as the importance of attracting, growing and retaining diverse talent in the workplace.
Topics discussed will include: -- From a workplace perspective -- what's changed? -- Differences between how straight marriages and gay marriages are recognized in the workplace -- How the recognition of gay marriage is impacting benefits like healthcare -- The tax changes and implications resulting from the ruling -- What we can learn from companies in other countries where gay marriage is recognized -- What it means for out of state employees who get married in California -- A Q&A session with leaders who were critical in advancing the marriage case Event Information: Date: Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Time: 4:30pm Location: Intuit, Building 9, 2600 Casey Avenue, Mountain View, CA 94801
