Gay Ex Top Cop Loses Bid For London Mayor

(London) Brian Paddick, the man who was the highest ranking openly gay police officer in the world, has lost his bid to become Mayor of London. Paddick ran for the Liberal Democrats and mounted a law and order campaign but despite putting in a good showing failed to capture the prize. In terms of popular vote he came in second. Boris Johnson (Tory) defeated incumbent Ken Livingstone (Labor) in a race that was more about Labor Prime Minister Brown's sagging popularity than Johnson's platform.
